David is a children's book author/illustrator, and fine
artist. He has been making pictures for kids since he
was a kid, himself. He was immediately put to work by
his fellow first-graders when it was discovered he
could draw a really scary monster. These days, his
monsters are a lot less scary-if not down right
friendly! David uses his middle name,Quentin, as his
pseudonym for his little monster books.
Check out "Monster Halloween" (HarperFestival 2006)
- the first of his
"Quentin" books. The little monster friends are now
collectively known as Fondi Mondi
(The World of Fun Little Monsters).
For non-fiction books for young readers, Science and
Nature are favorite themes. As a kid, David loved
exploring and pretending he was a famous scientist. He
finally decided he was better at making pictures and
writing books. Nowadays, he gets to make books about
amazing scientists and their discoveries- which is a lot
of fun. "Barnum Brown: Dinosaur Hunter" (Walker&
Company Books 2006) is his first in a series of books
designed to excite the imaginations of young readers.
David is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of
Design where he received a BFA and the University of
Maryland where he received an MFA.
David and his wife Margit, along with their children,
William, Sarah and Christopher make their home near
Asheville, North Carolina.
Some of the wonderful publishers David has worked
with include: Harper Collins, Charlesbridge, Walker &
Company, Scholastic, Houghton Mifflin, Harcourt,
McGrawHill, ScottForesman,Zonderkids,Wendy Pye
Ltd. and many more.
